General Information

Lamhi or Lamahi is a village near the holy city of Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Well known Hindu and Urdu writer Munshi Premchand was born in this village in 1880. It is very near to Sarnath, a famous Buddhist destination in Varanasi where Lord Buddha delivered his first seremon.

Tourism of Varanasi is planning for 'Premchand-Lamhi Mahotsav' in Varanasi. The Mahotsav will be celebrated from July 30 to August 01 at Lamhi village each year.

Commemorating the birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand, the three-day festival organized by culture department will be main attraction in Lamhi Village in Varanasi. The festival will be held simultaneously at Sanskrit Sankul premises as well Lamhi village. Urdu essay writing competition along with Hindi will be organized for school children. A book fair will also be held near the ancestral house of Premchand.

This 'Premchand-Lamhi Mahotsav' will shows films made on the novels of Premchand and a sarovar in Lamhi will also being named as Munshi Premchand Sarovar .

Lamahi is also a place of attraction for Village tour in Varanasi. Few tourist also spend some time in Lamhi village to see the way villagers lives and to see their day to day activity of farming and other rituals that only performed in villages like evening gathering near fire in winter or their tradition of marriages and celebrating festivals or enjoying some mela/bajar/local market or the way of cooking food on traditional chulas by burning cow dung and wood sticks.
