Varanasi has been the destination of people from very ancient times. There is existence of ancient transport networks to Varanasi. Its value in ancient as well as medieval and modern periods have led to development of a dense transport and travel network to facilitate communication for people visiting Varanasi.

By Air to Varanasi :-

Fastest way of transportation is Air-travel. Varanasi has a well-equipped Air-port to cater to needs of domestic and foreign transportations. Varanasi has one of the busiest transport networks for air-travel linking all the major cities of India like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.

The LalBahadurShastri International Airport, named after great leader and freedom fighter LalBahadurShastri who has also served as Agriculture Minister of Independent India is situated at Babatpur, hardly 25 kms away from Varanasi.

This is operated by Airports Authority of India (AAI), highest authority of Air Transport in India.

The airport was granted international status by the Union Cabinet on 4th October, 2012.

Formerly known as Varanasi Airport, it was officially renamed LalBahadurShastri Airport in October 2005.

Daily flights to Delhi, Agra , Khajuraho and other tourist sites of India are always available. There are a big number of air-taxi operators who offer their services to tourists. Tourists who are on short excursions and want to cover major destinations of India opt for such private air-transports. There are numerous private travel operators besides Indian Airlines, the state owned air operator. All the major tourism cities of India are well connected to Varanasi Airport and daily flights are available throughout the day for such cities.

From Varanasi Railway Station you can reach all the tourists sites of Varanasi which are within 10kms of range from the station.

Road Transport to Varanasi :-

All the major cities of India have buses operating for Varanasi. Varanasi has a Varanasi transport corporation where from buses to Delhi, Jaipur,Khajuraho, Bodhgaya, Nalanda, Agra and other major destinations are available whole day and night.
