The cultural festival of Kashi , Ganga Mahotsava, has been postponed. The event which was scheduled in November will now be held from January 21 to 23 along with the NRI meet in the Holy City. The decision was announced by the Mahotsava's organising committee.
Ganga Mahotsava is traditionally organised from Prabodhini Ekadashi till Dev Deepawali . Advance bookings of hotels and travel tickets are done months before, especially by foreign tourists.
Member of the Ganga Mahotsava organising committee Prof Vishwambhar Nath Mishra questioned the postponement of the event for the NRI meet. The organising committee, presided over by divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal, held a meeting on Monday .
The meeting took many major decision including renaming the fest as Kashi Ganga Mahotsava.
The commissioner proposed to hold the three-day main cultural events of the Mahotsava along with the proposed NRI meet at Assi Ghat instead of the old venue - Rajendra Prasad Ghat . Agarwal said, "The holding of Ganga Mahotsava in January will connect it with NRIs, who will visit the city in large numbers."
