Festivals of Christians in Goa, India
Goa is a place which has a mix culture and people belonging to different-different caste and creed survive together. And because of this Goa has several festivals celebrated by different-different community. There are so many events and festivals celebrated by Christians.
Among the festivals celebrated by Christians Christmas stays the prime of all the festivals. On 25th December every year the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated with much splendor and style. This day is celebrated worldwide, no doubt in this but the maximum movement is seen in Goa. The main attraction of Christmas is the Christmas trees, carols and cakes, and above all Santa Claus. Christmas is not only celebrated by the Christians but who aren't Christians they celebrate too.
After Christmas the other famous event celebrated in Goa is the Carnival which is celebrated in the month of February. This day marks the arrival of King Momo's.
Festivals of Hindus in Goa, India
The major festivals celebrated by the Hindu's are the Shigmo and the Zatra's. In addition to the above festivals there are other events such as Sangeet Samelan, the Igitun Chalne and the Kavelem Yatra etc. held in Goa. Diwali, Ganapati and other Hindu festivals are celebrated with the same zest.
The most important and genuine fact about all the festivals and celebration is that all the festivals are celebrated with a united spirit. In the same way each and every community have different festivals and the way of celebration is also different, like the farmers i.e. the rural class have a different set of festivals and events, where as that of the urban class is a little different.
International Film Festivals, India
Since 1952, India has hosted 34 International Film Festivals, both competitive and non-competitive. The aim of this festival is to offer a common platform for the cinematography’s of the world to project the excellence of the film art; contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos; and promoting friendship and co- operation among peoples of the world.
It was only from 1975 onwards that these festivals became annual events. The next Film festival will be organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in collaboration with the Indian Film Industry is going to occur in Goa and the festival will include a competition for feature films by Asian Directors. The Festival is recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (FIAPF).
