Allahabad - Vindhyachal Special - Mirzapur - Allahabad
Pickup from Hotel/Residence in Allahabad and drive to Vindhyachal .
Vindhyachal is situated in the middle of the two holy cities Allahabad and Varanasi on the banks of River Ganges in the Mirzapur district. The city is dedicated to Goddess Vindhyavasini and is one of the renowned Shaktipeethas of the country and an important religious and pilgrimage centre.
It is believed that Goddess Durga had established herself here after killing the demon king Mahishasura. Thus, Goddess Durga is also known by the name of Vindhyavasini in this area .There are many other temples and water springs (locally known as Kunds) in the vicinity of the town.
Vindhyavasini, Ashtabhuja and Kali Khoh are three main Shakti temples here, located on the three corners of Vindhya Parvat also known as Saktipeeths. The divine trinity is worshipped here as Ma Laxmi, Ma Kali and Ma Saraswati. Bhairav temples are located around the city centre to ward off evil effects, viz., Anand Bhairav on the east, Sidhanath on the west, Kapal Bhairav on the south & Rudra Bhairav on the north side.
‘Kajali’ the local folk music is dedicated to Maa Vindhyavasini. All Kajali singers from north India come here to celebrate Kajali Mahotsava (Festival). People come here to seek blessings from goddess of power.
Tantriks also visit this place for Tantra Sadhana(Meditation).
Later, visit Sitakund - one of the popular attractions at Vindhyachal. It is said that when Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were returning home after their exile, Sita became very thirsty at this place. There was no water available, so, Lakshmana pierced an arrow in earth and immediately a fountain of water came out. In memory of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Goddess Durga a temple was constructed.
One can quench his/her thirst here at the Sitakund. After climbing 48 steps to the SitaKund the track leads to another low hillock, where the Ashtabhuja Temple is situated.
Apart from its Mythological relevance, Vindhyachal is known for its beautiful natural surroundings .
Later drive back to Allahabad & drop to Hotel/Residence in Allahabad.
