Pushkar History, India

It is unknown that how city developed and its exact history is quite untraceable as it finds mention in even oldest scriptures. Yet, legends associate its origin with Lord Brahma. It is said that once Lord Brahma killed demon Vajranabha who was a torturous demon to humans and other creatures. In killing demon he used his weapon Brahma-Kamal (Lotus). Consequentially, some petals fell from his hand on the ground. Thus the name Pushkar has originated from these two words i.e. ‘Pushpa’ (Lotus Flower) and ‘Kara’ (Hand of Brahma).
