Varanasi Lakhs of devotees thronged ghats along the Ganga and took dip in the river on the occasion of Maghi Purnima on Sunday. Meanwhile, several religious events were held to mark Ravidas Jayanti celebrations. Devotees started reaching the ghats from the city as well as the adjoining districts for the auspicious occasion of Maghi Purnima from early hours of Sunday morning.
The areas near the ghats were heavily crowded and the arrival of devotees continued till late afternoon. Mean while, celebrations of 643rd birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas started in and around the city since morning hours. Religious processions and tableux were taken out on roads.
After congregating at Maidagin, a major religious procession moved to Seer Gowardhanpur area via Bansphatak, Godowlia, Sonarpura, Shivala and Lanka. The festive mood was evident in seer Govardhanpur area since Saturday evening. The women groups could be found celebrating the occasion by dancing and holding other events near the temple and Ravidas Park area. Another major celebration was evident at Ravidas temple at Bhaisasur Ghat area.
