In an unprecedented situation caused by the lock down, due to Coronavirus pandemic, the annual prestigious Sankat Mochan Music Festival , that concluded recently, turned digital this year.
The 97th year of the festival made use of technology to continue the tradition. A LED screen was installed at the open stage in the temple premises, where the live streaming of musicians who performed remotely was done.The link of the performance was shared on the social media platform.
Several artists including Pt Jasraj, a regular at the festival, performed from his home in New Jersey , so did artists like Biswajit Roy Chowdhary from Delhi, Pt Ronu Majumdar from Mumbai, Samar Saha from Kolkata,Shakir Khan from Pune , Debu Chaudhary from Delhi, Ajay Pohankar from Mumba, Malini Awasthi from Lucknowi, Prodyut Mukherjee from Kolkata performed remotely.
Audiences from all over the world connected with the festival which was extended by a day on popular demand.
According to Prof Vishwambhar Nath Mishra, Mahant , Sankat Mochan Temple, "This year we were in a fix because of the lockdown as no artist or audience could come for the music festival, so to keep up the tradition of the festival we decided to go for the digital platform, that was very well received."
