  When was Kolkata earlier known as Calcutta founded?

The city was founded in 1698 and was earlier known as Calcutta. During the British rule the city was served as the capital of British India till 1911 and then was shifted to Delhi. In 2001 the city was renamed as Kolkata. Kolkata is located along the banks of river Hoogly, and is connected to Howrah by the iconic Howrah Bridge.
