How to Reach Amarnath by Road
To reach Amarnath you have to go to Jammu. The National Highway 1-A, connects the different cities of Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of India. The state road transport corporation buses connect to the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi , Punjab and more.
To reach Amarnath you need to travel an arduous route. Amarnath Yatra starts from Jammu. Thereby one has to go by road to Srinagar and then to Baltal or Pahalgam . Baltal is the shortest trek (16 KM) on the way up to Amarnath but it is more difficult than Pahalgam Trek which is longer (about 40-50 KM) and relatively safer.
People can also hire Ponies and Palkies to reach the Amarnath Temple.
- From Baltal, it is a 1-2 day trek (16 KM) to reach Amarnath.
- From Pahalgam route is relatively longer and takes around 3-5 Days (40-50 KM).
How to Reach Amarnath by Train
There are no direct trains to Amarnath. From Jammu, one can hire cabs to reach either Baltal or Pahalgam.
The nearest station is Shri Mata Vaishno Devi , Katra (150 KM from Amarnath).
