Opening and Closing time of Bharat Kala Bhawan :
The museum opens at 8 am and closes at 5 pm. Students of University are allowed with their identity cards while outside visitors are needed to take tickets available at counters. Camera and recorders are not allowed inside due to security reasons.

Establishment of Bharat Kala Bhawan :
Bharat Kala Bhawan was established as a museum in premises of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 1920. It was first chaired by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and later by his nephew Abanindranath Tagore, known to have evolved a new form of painting and revived Indian indigenous art forms in British Period when European art overshadowed Indian Art. But, the whole credit for the organization and consolidation of the center and bringing it to modern stage of fame goes to Padmavibhushan Late RaiKrishnadasa. He was an eminent Hindi author of national acclaim.

Museum came to prominence gradually through its rich conservation efforts, though it has modest collection, it holds more than 100,000 varied collections of murals, statues, artifacts art and craft work paintings, decorative art, personalia, textiles, costumes, Indian philately as well as literary and the archival materials. There are statues of Golden Gupta Period. Most of the collections are historically important and are fine examples of sculpture and heritage of India. It also gives a stage to students to refine their skills as paintings of students of Faculty of Fine Arts are put here in exhibition. Students of Department of Ancient Art and Culture are seen here working on their projects. Artifacts found at archeological sites nearby Varanasi City are exhibited here. Maintenance and management is run by university administration. If someone visits Varanasi the opportunity to visit Bharat Kala Bhawan should not be missed!
